One person can make a difference, and one person with friends can change the world.
Who is “Robin”?
First I would like to say that it's not about ME, it's about
WE. I have ridden my motorcycle 20,226 miles all across the US and parts of Canada this summer - alone -
spreading the word that two charities need help. This
ride has been all about what we can do together to help people who
still really need it. That being
said, please allow me to introduce myself.
About Robin:
Robin is a specialty coffee and tea industry professional
who left her most recent job to devote herself full time to
this endeavor. She has been in the publishing side of the
industry since 1994 as a graphic designer, art director, director
of operations and an associate publisher. For the last three
years she covered the sales territory for the Western half
of the U.S. for Tea & Coffee Trade Journal, "the international
voice of the tea and coffee industries since 1901".
“I consider myself very lucky to have been involved in this wonderful industry for so long. It has given me the opportunity
to travel extensively and has allowed me to meet and work with some truly incredible people.”
Robin is 54, the mother of a great 34 year old son, is single but was married for 29 years, has lots of
wonderful friends, a caring boyfriend of 5 years (who is giving up his riding season to support the ride from behind the scenes),
has a home and 3 cats. Now what kind of a lady hops on
a Harley and leaves her home, job, family, friends and cats to go ride across the country on a motorcycle
telling women not to be afraid? Well, this type of a woman. One who is willing to fight past her fears,
take control and follow a dream that she has had since she was a child. One who thinks this is worth
talking about to as many women as she can reach. “And by the way, I hadn’t driven a motorcycle in over
30 years when I got my brand new, bright red Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide 2 years ago. Talk about a
couple of adrenaline rushes getting back on that horse! But ride I will.”
If a 54-year old woman can do this – what can you do? ANYTHING!
Robin is dedicating this ride to all of the women who have
already – have not yet – and who will soon - take control
of their lives so that they can follow their dreams. At last
count, there are well over 4 million ladies with motorcycles
out there. (Just think if they all sent a dollar!) That’s
a lot of independent, freedom-loving ladies. It’s also a lot
of buying power since women make the majority of all purchases,
yet there is very little information directed at us and our
riding experience. I hope to change that.
Robin promised to ride solo approximately 20,000 miles around
the continental United States and parts of Canada on her bright
red Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide - she completed 20,226!
Robin left from Harley-Davidson of Seattle in Lynnwood, WA
on June 10th. The ride lasted 4-months and 4-days and upon
her return continued plans for an auction with wonderful
items from companies all across the country. The plans for
this auction/dinner are progressing nicely and will be held on
December 16th, 2006 at Harley Davidson of Seattle in Lynnwood,
WA (tickets and info on
Contribution & Auction page). OVER $10,000 WORTH OF ITEMS HAVE
BEEN COLLECTED SO FAR!
“Other than wanting to heal my heart from losing both of my parents within a short period of time
last year (details on Blog page), a large reasons that I started this ride or had the courage to
take it and follow my dreams is because of the things I have
learned and the people I have met during my travels in the
coffee and tea industries. They have given so much to me that
I decided when I followed my dream and made this journey on
my motorcycle, I would like to give back. Because everyone
deserves health care and a home to live in, I would like to
donate part of the proceeds of my ride to Grounds
for Health® and part to
New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity's Women Build program®.
As you know, the storm season is upon us again and there is
still so much to do. Can you imagine having your home and
family torn apart - literally - and not being able to fix
it yourself but instead having to depend on the grace of others? If it were me,
I would hope someone would come to help.
Both of these organizations are deserving and touch women and their families.
We can make a difference - that says it all!”
